Sennheiser HD 4.40 is wireless headphones for around $80 offering a pack of solid features. I have had these headphones and used them daily for over two years now. So let’s take a look at what it offers.
When choosing these headphones, I was looking for a solid brand I knew I could trust, Bluetooth, over-the-ear cups and an affordable price. Sennheiser HD 4.40 BT checked all the boxes for me.
Build quality
Sennheiser HD 4.40 has not failed on me in these past two years and writing this article they sit on my ears comfortably. Although they are made of plastic and feel lightweight, they are able to take the beating without ever failing on you.
I put them in my backpack, luggage, wore them in outsides at low and high temperatures and took them with me while jogging. Nothing had damaged them. So they definitely pass the build quality test.
Bluetooth and how to pair new device to HD 4.40 BT
Sennheiser HD 4.40 BT has a Bluetooth feature. It works fine at a distance even if I move further away from the PC and to another room. Never had problems with it indoors. Never experienced any interference noise.
The Bluetooth works reliably and pairs with any device. To pair a new device with Sennheiser HD 4.40 BT you need to hold the power on button on headphones for an additional 3 seconds after it turns on.
You will notice the blue led light will switch to red color. This is an indication that headphones are ready to pair to a new device.
The only issue I had with Sennheiser HD 4.40 BT in terms of connectivity is when using it with Adobe Audition software. It works well at the beginning, but after a couple of minutes the audio starts disappearing and I have to restart the software to continue working.
I don’t know if it is a problem with Adobe Audition or Sennheiser HD 4.40 BT, but since I have separate monitoring headphones I didn’t care much about it.
If you own a device that has NFC feature, Sennheiser HD 4.40 BT will support it and is capable of connecting through NFC.
Cups
Cups on Sennheiser HD 4.40 BT are large and very soft. They will clamp your ears and cover them lightly. Sound isolation is also great on Sennheiser HD 4.40 BT. At moderate volume, it will not leak any sound whatsoever.
On the other hand, they may feel quite warm when exercising. My ears don’t feel warm or sweaty if I am using them at the desktop, but as soon as I start exercising they start to warm up quite a bit.
Although, that is nothing you wouldn’t experience with any other over the ears headphones. I wouldn’t call it a drawback. Just if you are buying headphones for exercising, over the ears headphones may not be your best choice.
Volume
Volume is a bit tricky on Sennheiser. I found that even when you set them to the lowest audio volume they still sound relatively loud.
The amplitude of volume is otherwise good. Increasing until the maximum volume will make headphones sound extremely loud. It is just the lower end of the volume that is a bit limited.
Sennheiser HD 4.40 BT does not have a noise-canceling feature, but it blocks outside sound sources passively quite well.
Sound qualities
Sennheiser HD 4.40 BT has slightly increased low-end frequencies. Compared to my Sony MDR 7506 they sound a bit muddier than what I like, but if you enjoy a moderate increase in the bass you will enjoy the sound.
Microphone
Sennheiser HD 4.40 BT has an inbuilt microphone with a frequency response of up to 10,000 frequencies. It is not great, but in my experience, it sounds better than a smartphone microphone.
Despite not being great, it is perfectly usable for talking on the phone. Bluetooth and an inbuilt microphone will allow you to talk without the need for holding your smartphone. Which is great.
As for gaming, the mic will function properly and your gaming friends will be able to understand you at ease. It may not be the most pleasant sound, but it does the job.
Battery
Sennheiser HD 4.40 BT battery will last for 25 hours and it will fully charge in 2 hours. Although honestly, for me it feel as if Sennheiser HD 4.40 BT battery is capable of a lot more usage.
As already mentioned, I use this headset daily and it battery manages to hold for weeks, sometimes a month. I scarcely ever need to worry about charging it.
Moreover, charging takes only 2 hours. In these days when smartphone batteries last a day or two at the best, having headphones whose battery holds for weeks is a bliss.
Adjusting
Sennheiser HD 4.40 BT has adjustable strips which are great. They are sturdy and I have never experienced them slipping.
Headphones are also foldable, making them more compact for daily carrying or traveling.
The cups also swivel to the sides a bit, which helps to position them in a comfortable position.
The headband has a bit of cushion, but not too much. Nevertheless, I have never experienced any discomfort because of it.
Buttons
Sennheiser HD 4.40 BT has three buttons. One to adjust audio volume. Another one is made for skipping songs/Youtube videos, etc and pausing. The third button is for turning it on and pairing.
I found volume adjust and skipping/pausing buttons to be extremely useful. Since it is a Bluetooth device it is very convenient to use buttons to increase volume, skip or pause songs when away from your device.
Conclusion
Sennheiser HD 4.40 BT is a great pair of headphones, which will provide you with most of the wanted features. Everything except noise canceling is included.
It is a good price for the quality and features. If you want a good value product Sennheiser HD 4.40 BT will be a good choice.
